The ornamental wrought iron grates that Eliot Iron Works provided have brought me
security and beauty at the same time. I wanted to know my home was safe, but I didn’t
want to detract from the appearance. Eliot Iron Works exceeded my expectations.
Their people are courteous and dependable, their service was prompt, and their design
is so attractive that I called on them again to install a fence at the end our back yard.
I admire and deeply appreciate your artistic and precise engineering expertise in creating the fence that you helped me design and plan. It is such a beautiful addition to our 110 year old home in Boston's South End. We specifically wanted the fence for my daughter's wedding, and you were able to complete the work in time, and create a design that honors my father, a professor emeritus of architecture, who lived here. The unique Greek Key motif that you so precisely executed in amazing iron detail met with the unanimous approval of the Boston Landmark Commission. Thank you for all your skill, professionalism, and commitment in completing this fence which so beautifully enhances our South End home.

I've chosen Eliot Iron for my projects for over 30 years. These are decent people . They do their best for a fair price. Eliot Iron has done routine work like roof deck railings and fire escape repairs. They’ve done complex projects and extensive ornamental work, like outdoor railings that had to match neighborhood ironwork and meet with the Boston Historic Districts Commission approval. Eliot Iron always performs with the same exceptional level of skill and dedication.

As a shipbuilder during WWII, Julie Cohen mastered every aspect of steel work and recognized the impact steel could have in skilled hands and its power to make the world a safer place. After the war, Julie partnered with another shipbuilder to start RI-CO Iron Works.
Julie and his employees were a team. Their goal was to assure the safety of others. Success depended on the strength of the materials and on the men who wielded it.
Julie’s son, Robbie, followed in his footsteps. As a boy, Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs became fire escapes and window grates, As a man, Robbie learned from Julie, Frank, and their team, to master every facet of steel work. In 1992, Robbie changed the name of the family business to Eliot Iron Works, in honor of his son, Eliot.
In 1999, Robbie and Laurie’s son Eliot died at 16 from AIDS-related complications. When Eliot learned of his illness as a boy, he made it his mission to make a difference in the lives of others. He dedicated himself to educating others, speaking at schools and with news media all across the Commonwealth. He appeared in national publications and television shows, talking about living with AIDS. Eliot’s openness helped remove the stigma that so many before him had suffered and his bravery inspired thousands of people.
